Long ago but not forgottenSubmitted by webmaster on Sat, 27/01/2007 - 14:53.
![]() On the 24th November 2006 at the Fishpond, we launched (a non-existent) website under the name of Amp'd however due to alterations within the group the name Peak Bands was formed. We are very thank full for all of the help and support that was give to us on the night and would especially like to thank John Gill for letting us use the Fishpond when we clearly had no idea of what we were doing. I arrived later than expected on the night, due to bad traffic, to find myself looking at a van which was offloading wood into the Ballroom. Not overly sure what or where I was going I proceeded to find Joel and Dom setting up the PA system. The next task was to stack the wood that had been left in an unorganised pile in the middle of the room. Not overly impressed with the number of splinters that I obtained from the moving of this 'flooring', I found myself now jobless with a lot of time to kill. Eventually dribs and drabs of band members walked through the door. To find the set lists changed AGAIN, no longer was I jobless. Dealing with these musicians proved to be stressful and ended up with me informing them to do what ever they wanted. On reflection this was a very bad idea. The set list was then picked to pieces with Moody from Long Grass inquiring who 'Change Over' were and commenting that they seemed to be on stage a lot. It was finally pointed out to him that 'Change Over' was not a band but was the interval in which the bands had to change over. Symbols of Supremacy wondered off to buy flavoured milk. (I would call them Milkshakes but they weren't it was flavoured milk) Long Grass wondered around Matlock Bath in the rain. Half of Tenapenny was setting up the PA the other half just laying around. Joe Man Hater helping 12 Gauge Justice pull the set-list apart and a couple of other people from different bands just wandering around. By this point I'd had enough and decided that I would be useful and buy Joel some chips in curry sauce. I would like to say that after this everything went smoothly.....but it didn't. As you know we had numerous requests to comply with fire regulations so half of my night was spent rearranging peoples equipment so that the girls toilets could be used. Then I was informed that I would be paying for bar staff. At this point some private investigation work was carried out with Luke from Linda Goodmans (now Candy Apple Sour) asking them all how much they got paid.(thanks by the way). At this point I was told that there were too many bands playing and that it was going to go on for too long, so sets were cut down. Plenty of other things went wrong but I don't think that you will want to hear about the fundamental flaws in the night and the plan of action which will be taken to ensure that it doesn't happen again. The likelihood that any of you realised that all of this had happened is very slim and perhaps I shouldn't have informed you of the failings of the night. Anyway, all the bands played well and we really appreciate you all playing for us and making the night what it was. Heres a brief review or comment on each of the bands that played. Symbols of Supremacy- put a new edge on indie and got the audience ready for an evening of live entertainment (and thanks for the drums)
Long Grass-the babies of the night but showing great potential to become one of the best bands in the area. Linda Goodmans Love Signs(now known as Candy Apple Sour)- despite losing a cymbal and a drum they played pretty dam well. And in Lukes own words RIP Brett. Factory Rich- Oh so amazing and the costumes were rather immense made my night thanks. Tenapenny- a really friendly bunch of people who combined make an awsome sound Joe Man Hater- Great bunch of guys and great set thanks for all the help The Crooks- Amazing as usual and get better each time I hear you play. Est.- Welcome back! It's been a long time Miss Roe but you've not lost it.
