Bloc Party, gone serious second time around?Submitted by webmaster on Sat, 17/02/2007 - 11:00.
Is it possible for Kele and gang to follow up the praised ‘Silent Alarm’ album with something just as original to ears of many awaiting fans? Well not getting too carried away with out hearing the whole album it appears that so far ‘yes’ he has managed to achieve this goal. Kele Okerke has openly spoken about their new album, ‘a weekend in the city’, as music that deals with more than just your average indie group addressing issues such as racism, which Kele feels there are still problems in society with racism and it is possibly never going to go away. There seems to be a lack in bands confronting cultural issues as much in their music anymore, (obviously McFly missed the memo to put meaning into their lyrical rhymes). Fans are in anticipation of a more serious Bloc Party ready to commit to the ‘scene’. To enforce this the bands have already been making appearances all over the place and giving interviews, where they are letting us all know that they are back with a different angle on their new album but with the same tunes we all know and love. The lads have been known to play down their talents describing themselves as un-extraordinary. The band formed by Kele first getting together with Russel and later finding Gorden and Matt to collectively fuse together to form Bloc Party. It may be hard for them to fall out of the ‘catchy’ loop that people envision them into with their signature songs such as ‘banquet’ and ‘two more years’. But they show with their new single ‘The Prayer’ they know were they are heading in the future, making their mark on the ‘scene’ for people to notice them this time around, if they manages not to last time.
